Whatcom County Basic Life Support (BLS) Protocol Addendum and Transport Guidelines
The Washington State protocols used alongside the BLS Protocol Addendum and Transport Guidelines serve as a
guideline for First Responders and Emergency Medical Technicians working in Whatcom
County. They permit a standardization of care and outline the limits of care that
First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, and BLS personnel can provide.

First Responder Education
Good teamwork is essential when First Responders arrive to provide emergency care. There are several procedures that can be
done to make the time on-scene more productive, which will also help ease the transition between First Responders and Paramedics.
Paramedics often have a long list of tasks that they need to accomplish before arriving at the emergency room, and they rely on
the assistance of First Responders to help get these tasks done as quickly as possible. The following topics are designed to help

Infectious Disease Instructor
As a certified EMT, you encounter many things in the field that pose not only a risk to the general public,
but to yourself as well. The Infectious
Disease Instructor is a PowerPoint presentation that informs EMTs of the dangers of infectious diseases, and how to
protect yourself from them.
Moulage Tips and Training
The Whatcom County EMS/TC Council has received a Moulage kit and a box of additional supplies from North Region.
These kits are to be used by anyone who is performing a DUI mock crash, disaster drill, etc. If you would like
to reserve this kit, please call the EMS/TC Council office at (360) 715-6418. Office hours are Tuesday and Thursdays
